The Iran coup of 1953
After reading this article I have a better understanding of why the United States, along with a majority of the western world, perseveres a negative connotation when dealing with political matters in the Middle East. It seems as if the coup of 1953 was constructed and supported by foreign powers for cynical reasons. Although the western governments had specific agendas that led the actions that took place, this particular incident in history typifies the political paranoia of communism in the 50s and the greed that still exist today with the fight for oil. I would consider this a mistake on the behalf of the United States when dealing with political decisions and foreign affairs. However, mistakes happen, but it does not make sense the way that the United States continued to do other coups like the one in Guatemala. I'm really glad to learn about such historical events like this because it informs me on the political problems that take place around the world. However, today I feel ashamed and truly saddened by the way that the United States did such things after being recognized as a a leader and world power after the WWII. I believe that the United States should take further precautionary measures and responsibility for the political decisions they make as a world leader and always remember at the end of day they are dealing with the lives of human beings.
